In October 2007, the Yahoo Group ‘Dallas Film Group’ was created.  The goal was to go to the movies at least twice a month and talk about them over wine or coffee.  Well, then the idea of a website popped in my head.  I wanted a non-intimidating center for film-lovers and fellow passionate writers.  We could let the world know our honest, professional opinions.  The opinions of us Southerners (whether by birth or relocation) are unique from the rest of the country’s.  We can be bold, brash, opinionated, but at the same time, gentle and warm.

The “Big D” comes in as a reminder that Dallas (really various Texas cities) is producing fantastic independent movies, TV shows and music, but they need a voice.  They need an outlet.  We want to be that voice for you Dallas.  It is because of your diversity, Southern charm, and independent thinking, that I created this site.

About PulpLizard
When I was a kid I was very hopeful about the future.  In the 80s President Reagan and Stevie Wonder promised us a world where we’d all get along if we just drank some Coke and sang campfire songs.  I guess that world melted like the M&Ms clutched in our hands.

I am a writer for the basic need to express my ideas, entertain and figure exactly who I am.  I love the idea of combining this love with my love of movies, music, theater and my fellow writers.  I am unique because I don’t see other writers as rivals whom I need to crush, but as teachers—general enlighteners if you will.

Me?  I was born in a suburb near Chicago and yup, raised in Texas.  My parents are from Mexico and always encouraged me to get a real job instead of wasting time and money at college.  They weren’t too happy when I chose to major in Communication Arts.  They were like “what the hell can you do with a BA in that?!”  But I was a journalist and I currently work for a major U.S. airline.  But my goal in life is to meet and interview Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.  Oh, yeah, and make a lot of money.

I hope you enjoy this site.  I hope you will giggle and be entertained but at the same time learn something new.

Keeping it Reel,

Liz Casanova
